A smart glass, also known as Switchable glass, has special light transmission properties that can be altered when light, voltage, or heat is applied. It is laminated with a smart or switchable film, where glass, acrylic, or polycarbonate laminations are often used. You can switch it to both transparent and opaque states. You can install special types of smart films on regular windows, which can convert into smart glass.

Switchable glass technologies include special featured devices such as electro chromic, photo chromic, thermo chromic, micro blind devices. You can use switchable glass for energy saving purpose, and the heating and cooling is controlled by adjusting the amount of sunlight to pass through the glasses of the window. It is the best suitable for office conference rooms, because of its transparent and opaque state, it can be used as a projection screen. Switchable glass is used in hospitals, especially in infant rooms and intensive care units.

Does smart glass require special maintenance?

Special maintenance maybe not be required, but basic maintenance is required for the Smart glass until and unless the voltage system is working well, but special maintenance is required. You should clean your Smart glass with a clean and soft cloth, with a gentle chemical-free cleanser.

Ensure that the cleanser should contain any harsh chemical content like acids; smart glass is usually cleaned with low concentrated alcohols. Always switch off the power of the film while cleaning, do not switch on until it’s completely dry. Be careful and don’t allow hard metals to come in contact with the glass.

You need to pay extra attention to the edges of the glass, and the fluids do not collect in the corners during cleaning and make the corners dust-free. Annual checks are necessary for smart glass to ensure the wiring is in good condition and operating well. These are the simple maintenance required for maintaining the smart class.
